about

We've had this knocking about for a fair old while, probably the last song we all did when we were living together. When Ed was a TEFL teacher he used spend half his time on trains and half of that time going into elaborate relationship fantasies about his female co-commuters.

Ed did most of the lyrics and about half the melody and we all sat down together to write the litany of ridiculous similes that ends the song.

lyrics

Lyrics:

I’m constantly meeting my soul-mate
On late night trains
I’m in love with the magic and the mystery
Of their beauty and their brains

I try to catch her eye before it’s time to go
But she is on a conference call to Tokyo

I’m a sucker for the suited commuters
Sat alone, talking to computers all day
We could ride into the sunset on horses
Have a picnic, where we could talk of divorces
Market forces
And commuting
And computing
And whatever
It’s not relevant, cos

SNARE DRUM!

I’m constantly met with indifference
On late night trains
Got nothing in common but our ancestry
What’s written in our DNA

I’d like to knock her out and drag her to my cave
If this train de-rails, she’d be the one I’d try to save

I’m a sucker for the suited commuters
Blah blah blah blah… it really doesn’t matter anyway

BASS DRUM!

We’re worlds apart; she’s first class, I’m economy
And I’d like to take her a million miles away
We’re worlds apart; I’m MDF and she’s mahogany
And I’d like to take her a million miles away

We’re worlds apart; she’s first class, I’m economy
And I’d like to take her a million miles away
We’re worlds apart: she is fraud, I am robbery
And I’d like to take her a million miles away

We’re worlds apart; I’m a man, she’s a deity
And I’ll find in my mind a million things to say
We’re worlds apart; she’s Pinot Noir, I’m Tennents Super T
And I’d like to take her a million miles away
